Friends and Family
During the first week or so in Southampton we were sent countless parcels by friends and family – things we had forgotten from home, things that we found we needed but didn’t have, as well as thoughtful gifts and cards. We had deliveries of essentials such as nappies, dummies and other baby things. Family purchased items such as a highchair and hoover for the flat (which we hope will come in handy as additions to the flat for future residents) and the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation also said to just ask if there is anything we find we need. We are so very thankful to our friends and family for all the support in those first few weeks, every moment was consumed so we didn’t even have time to internet shop so we just sent messages to our support network of friends and family with requests for things we needed ordered or organised. However, after the first couple of weeks we sent a message to both family and friends thanking them for their gifts, but explaining that we were conscious that space is limited in the flat. Having already had lots of deliveries of lovely biscuits and chocolates as well as so many gifts for Romy, and with having to keep the flat so clean for Romy if and when she can come to visit, additional items makes this harder. In place of gifts for Christmas we therefore asked for our families to give us money instead this year. We had taken the decision several years ago to live on one wage and as a consequence were living very frugally. We wanted to let family and friends know that money would make more difference to our lives than gifts as our financial situation had been in the back of our minds since arriving in Southampton. When they realised that money would be so much more useful than gifts our friends jumped into action and Jess set up a Go Fund Me page which just snowballed. We were blown away by the support, not just from friends but also from strangers we had never met. The response was so heart warming, so much generosity and Guernsey community spirit and we want to thank everybody from the bottom of our hearts.
Ravenscroft
Friday 19th November 2021 – Ravenscroft held a mufti day and raised an incredible £2,100. Staff at Ravenscroft were so supportive and also keen to set up a fundraising page had friends not already done so.
Oak Group & Next Generation IT
Oak Group and Next Generation IT cycled for a combined 24 hours on Friday 26th November. “Ride for Romy” was held at Oak House, thanks to OGH for supplying the bikes, we are so thankful for the fundraising efforts of all Tom’s workplace colleagues.
Little Divas
Saturday 27th November – Little Divas held an open day with nail varnish, glitter tattoos, face paints, Christmas gifts and accessories, raising money for Romy.
Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation
The Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation provide compassionate housing for critically poorly children next to Southampton Hospital. The flat was ready for our arrival (which was incredible as it was only just over 24 hours from the tumour being found to arriving on the ward in Southampton). We literally don’t know what we would have done without the flat.
Delimited
Delimited IT Solutions have been more than happy to host and setup this website for us. They’ve been so helpful. Justin and Thu Nguyet from Delimited are good friends of ours, and Justin is also Romy’s godfather.
