Romy and Zephyr love dogs and every day before bedtime they play a game called ‘doggy park’ where they pretend to be dogs, retrieving balls and generally role playing being dogs in every way imaginable. Romy doesn’t get to see the therapy dogs that visit the hospital very often and none of us get to do much indoors and with big crowds of people, so we signed up to ‘borrow my doggy’ with the idea of taking dogs for walks. We met Bo, a golden retriever, and Romy enjoyed feeding him a treat. Bertie, a Shih Tzu/Maltese cross, was even more of a hit because he was small enough for her to hold the lead herself, and a little bit cheeky. Zephyr preferred to watch from a distance to start with and still hasn’t plucked up courage to give a stroke. Even though she struggled with the cold, the dogs also gave Romy the motivation to walk further than she normally would manage.
